Around the clock staff is cleaning and maintaining the property. The pools are cleaned everyday. Staff is friendly and attentive. The hallways are hot and rooms can get a bit humid if ac is not constantly on. If you have an infant like we did bring a portable fan for walking around/pool/ dinner time. The main cafeteria can be a bit hot with the doors constantly opening for people to enter/ leave but the food is above average for an all inclusive and the restaurants (Japanese and Steak House) were great the other two we were not fans of. The daily cocktails at the coffee lounge were excellent and it made night time very fun, also the cappuccinos are delicious. We went next door to Dunmar for the water park and you can see/feel the difference from the Palace tier, the park was fun. All in all it was a great stay and I would recommend for families.

The hotel was clean and well maintained, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. There was no need to make reservations for the restaurants, which was very convenient.

I would especially recommend the Crystal restaurant and the Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the Italian restaurant, Roma. The food was disappointing, the fish was overcooked and dry, and the waiting time was very long.

As for improvements, I would suggest adding more towel stations near the beach and perhaps a bar closer to the beach area for greater convenience. Better ventilation in the bathrooms would also be appreciated.

La limpieza de la habitacion es excelente, el staff que nos atendio fue muy amable, las albercas son buenas pero a mi parecer les falta atencion en limpieza de vasos y comida alrededor de la misma, y el bar depende del barman que te toque, no recuerdo el nombre de uno que para mi fue el mejor alto, flaco con tatuajes en los brazos pelo rizado, excelente las bebidas que el preparo 10/10, me tocaron otros barman y nadamas no. pero en general la estancia fue muy buena, los traslados estan un poco largos, lleva calzado comodo

Beautiful new resort, very clean, with good food and kind staff. However, service is not yet at a true 5-star level, especially in the restaurants.
We paid extra for the Elite Club, but lunch was served in one large, noisy buffet room with no special service or privacy.
Another major issue is the lack of elevators: pools and beach are reachable only by about 25 steps, which is uncomfortable and not disability-friendly.
The Elite pool is also right next to the main pool, crowded with kids and many guests, so it does not feel private or exclusive. Overall, the resort is beautiful, but the Elite Club does not justify the extra cost.

THE ONE REVIEW TO HELP YOU PICK YOUR HOTEL:

I have been to numerous all inclusive resorts in the Cancun area. This one is by far the WORST. Let me tell you why.. This resort is advertised to be much better than other Riu resorts since it is a “palace”. The food is better? Unless you are at the restaurants at 6:30pm, you will eat at the buffet every night (all the restaurants were filled by 7:30 with elite club reservations). Which is the exact same at Riu Dunamar or Latino. Two pool bars? No. One is entirely reserved for their elite club. Even riu Dunamar and Latino have two pool bars and THEY ARE CHEAPER. That means their one pool bar is absolutely saturated with people. So many people in that one bar area that it smells like sewage. Since its a palace does that mean that the beach area is better than the neighboring riu’s? No. There was so much seaweed that it smelled like actual feces and no one was in the ocean. SUMMARY: Save your money and go to riu latino or dunamar. They are the same exact thing with better chances at eating in restaurants and the same beach AND CHEAPER AND TWO ACTUAL POOL BARS. Also, two adult men in my party got food poisoning and Adrian from customer service looked my in the face and said that maybe they drank pool water. He then directed me to their pharmacy where i spent $45 on medication.

Unfortunately, this was our second and last time staying at this hotel. The new management that took over this resort has made the experience much worse.

Not only was the front manager unhelpful, but also rude and disrespectful throughout our stay. The overall staff seemed overwhelmed and very unaccommodating. About a month before our trip, I emailed requesting an upgrade to an oceanfront room and made it clear we were willing to pay the difference, but no effort was made to accommodate us, which was extremely disappointing.

The food was another major letdown. Most of it was dry, overcooked, and lacked flavor. We also tried several of the restaurants on the property hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately it was just as disappointing.

There also seemed to be a shortage of staff everywhere — not enough bartenders, limited water service, and long waits. You could clearly see the employees were overworked.

Overall, this resort no longer provides the level of service and quality we experienced in the past, and sadly we will not be returning.

To start off, the staff was kind, helpful, and always attentive. Bethsaida, Daisy, Nacho, Alex, Fatima, and Noemi made our experience 10/10. The room was clean and thoroughly maintained during our stay, and the property was easily accessible. The elevators were clean and quick, and there was always something to do, including water Zumba, fitness classes, beach games, pool games, and drinking at the bars. The restaurants and buffet was delicious, and room service was convenient with flexible off menu requests. I highly recommend the gourmet and Italian restaurants because they were my favorites.
At night, the resort hosted fun shows with different performances every evening.
I planned to propose to my partner during this trip, and the resort helped make it unforgettable. Bethsaida assisted me with hiring an external vendor to decorate both our room and the gazebo where the proposal happened. She did an amazing job, and everything turned out even better than expected. I highly recommend contacting customer service before your trip for planning help because she truly takes care of you. I also hired the photographers on the property, and they were professional and helped us pose. I’m not very photogenic, the pictures came out great. We booked a couples spa experience that was incredibly relaxing. The massage took place in the same secluded beachside gazebo as the proposal, with only the sound of ocean waves around us.
If you’re considering an all-inclusive resort chose this one!

Stayed here start of May, 2026 with 5 kids. In short for families w kids...well maintained, very clean property. Management must be clean freaks, which is awesome, shows how every night they water/soap scrub tiles around pools, walkways. Public bathrooms clean. Food excellent, for adults/kids. My kids somewhat picky, didn't complain once, so much variety of foods for breakfs, lunch, din.

Restarnts, no reservation needed, however they open at 6pm, its 1st come 1st serve, they put you on wait list, and give u round UFO thingamajiggy that lights up when your time is up. If you show up at 8pm, sorry u may be out of luck, which happened to us once. All restrnts have two days off a week, at diff days.

One drawback: property needs more bathrooms. If u at restaurant and need to use a bathroom, either hold it in, or walk half mile to the nearest 1. I think there are 4, 5 of them. Double them asap! Heck, single houses have 3, 4. This property is not huge, everything is very walkable, but bathrooms are too far and not enough, especially around restrnts and pools. You have to leave waterpark and walk far to nearest bathroom, which means...u guessed it, which kid wants to leave waterpark to pee?

Waterpark is split in two for kids and for anyone who is over 130cm. You have to walk out from one, go around to enter the other section. Kids enjoyed the waterpark.

We had lots of weeds on beach. Tractor removes some every morning. Kayaks, boards, vests, free w qr code/waiver.

We requested that our room be ready upon our arrival at 12 pm. It was ready a little after 3 pm. Then, when we arrived to our room we realized there was no air conditioning. After we called down to the front desk, we were informed the entire hotel had no AC due to a power outage. We were not informed of this when we checked in. This lasted until the next morning. And, there was no hot water for the shower. We were told no refund or accommodations would be given for the inconvenience. However, the room was clean and we had a nice view.

Upon check-in, we were told the restaurants were first come first served. On the first night, only the Mexican restaurant had available, and it was not that great. We were told that if we wanted to eat at the steak restaurant to arrive at 5 pm the next day to put our name on the list for a reservation. We arrived the next day at 5 pm. No one was there, and we were asked to come back at 6 pm. I came back at 6:01 and had to fight to get a reservation for 7:45 instead of 8:45. The food was decent.

I enjoyed the pool by the bar. It was nice and warm. The second day it was a bit icky and I think. I think someone might have thrown up in it.

The beach was very nice. A perfect view of the beach with the chairs. And I enjoyed the beachside service with drinks.

I also liked the drinks in the room. We had bottles of rum, vodka, whisky, and tequila. I also liked the daily specialty drinks.

Very disappointing experience. The jet ski staff refused to accommodate a simple and reasonable request. I paid for 30 minutes and wanted to divide the time between my family, including a short 5-minute ride for my 7-year-old daughter. There was no flexibility at all — just a flat refusal, even though I paid for the full time and should be able to use it as I want.

On top of that, the prices are extremely overpriced for this level of service.

The facility itself is also poorly designed and inconvenient. The floors are very slippery, which feels unsafe, especially for families with kids. Moving around with a stroller is frustrating — there are no clear or direct exits to the pools, and you end up walking through what feels like a maze just to get around.

Overall, not family-friendly and definitely not worth the price.

I came here as a solo female traveler , 27 years old. I had the ABSOLUTE best time, I was so nervous at first but I seriously have depression from leaving. It felt like home in the best way, I was catered to, everyone was simply amazing. I spent every single day at the beach and pool. The food was AMAZING and I’m a picky girl! My top 3 were the Italian, steakhouse and Mexican. My room was cleaned for me every day , as I asked for it to be. Nothing of mine was touched. It was well worth the money.

The Hotel: in terms of the facility it was amazing the shows and access to the beach were as expected. The pools close way too early so usage is limited.

The staff:
the cleaning staff was amazing they maintained a consistent schedule and quality even left personalized touches that made an extra memory to our vacation.
The lobby staff were very dry and lacked a sense if costumer service. Did not seek ways to assist, accommodate nor offer alternative solutions.
The restaurant staff, while they attempted to help and be hospitable the “rules” or “methods” were ridiculous and restrictive, a far cry from All Inclusive”.

The restaurants, you need to show up and make a line at 4:30pm wait until 6:30pm in order to make a reservation for later that night. You cannot book ahead of time. This is inefficient and wasted valuable time on your vacation.

The pool park, while there are clearly posted signs on items allowed and not allowed there are no such signs for water/action cameras i.e a 360 camera. Just know that the staff will not allow it. This includes the ray-band neta glasses whether they see prescription or not. I was forced to us the slide while practically and medically blind. Which is both a safety risk and unacceptable.

Food was not great. Not a lot of variety and lacking in flavor. Much of the staff came across as unwelcoming, if you didn’t speak English, you were often ignored or treated poorly. I live in the U.S. but have family in Cancun, and the difference in how we were treated was noticeable. Out of approximately 20 staff members we interacted with, only two were consistently kind and respectful to both me and my family. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I will not be returning.

Resort is stunning! Having the elite club was great! Love the oceanfront room, ability to make reservations at restaurants, elite pool, elite restaurant was FANTASTIC & upgraded alcohol. Also, we never found elite breakfast area.

Everything is a perfect distance as in room locations to pools, beaches, & restaurants. There is definitely something for everyone.

Most restaurants and buffets were great! We were disappointed with the Mexican restaurant.

Entertainment was good. White party next door was fun. Fun and games throughout the day.

Staff were super friendly and helpful. Bartenders were great!

Ordered room service for the next morning because we had an early morning excursion pick up. Never received the order. Spoke to room service and front desk, but said there some confusion. No clue!

We arrived early but unable to checkin because rooms weren’t ready. Was told to come back at 3pm but wasn’t ready till 3pm. We also booked a king junior suite elite club oceanfront room, was told at checkin that we’re no rooms available. They gave us a room junior suite elite club oceanfront room with two double beds what were pushed together. They offered to move us but not till three days into our trip to a king room. The monster size bed worked out to be fine.

Overall we had a great time and would consider coming back!

This resort was okay. It didn’t wow me but it wasn’t horrible either. The thing that was really frustrating is that they didn’t take reservations for any of the restaurants and we had to wait in line for over an hour to potentially get a reservation and we only ended up with one reservation out of the four nights we stayed there. My only other complaint was that the bed was very uncomfortable and we didn’t sleep well at all. Also, the hallways were very noisy and we were often woke up by people in the hallway.

Plus: Staff was very friendly and hard working, especially in the buffet and around the pools.

We had a wonderful stay at Riu Costa Mujeres Cancun with our family. Everything went smoothly from start to finish, and we had no major issues.

The rooms were always clean, and the resort layout made everything very convenient. It’s especially great for families—there’s a kids’ area with a water park/kiddy pool, and we were able to use the kids’ club (RiuLand), which gave us some quality time as a couple.

The food was very good, especially breakfast, and we enjoyed spending time by the pool. The nightly shows were fun, although we didn’t get to attend all of them.

The only thing to note is the laundry service—you just need to send items early enough before departure to get them back in time. Also, professional photos are available and beautiful, but a bit pricey.

Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back.

Title: Amazing staff and food, but avoid rooms below 200!
Our stay at Riu Costa Mujeres was a mix of wonderful hospitality and a very frustrating room issue.
The Good:
The Staff: The waiters and hotel workers are incredible. They are hardworking, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. They truly make the resort feel welcoming.
Dining: The food was excellent. Every restaurant we visited offered high-quality meals and great service.
Expedia: I have nothing but praise for Expedia. When I contacted them about my room issues, they were professional and immediately provided a credit for my next booking. I will definitely continue to book all my trips through them.
The Bad (The Room & Management):
The Noise: If you are booking this hotel, do not accept a room number below 200. Our room was located directly under a restaurant, and the noise was unbearable. It woke us up every single day.
Management: This was the most disappointing part. I complained to the manager and asked to be moved to a quieter room or to receive a credit for a future stay. The manager refused both and only offered a free spa treatment. For someone who just wants a good night's sleep, a spa treatment is worthless. It felt like they didn't really care about solving the actual problem.
Final Verdict:
Go for the food and the amazing service from the staff, but be very careful with your room assignment. Huge thanks to Expedia for actually stepping up when the hotel management wouldn't.

Overall, good value. If you are a foodie, and someone who likes to enjoy a comfortable dinner in the evening this is not the place for you. We were disappointed with the food quality and dining options: you could not make dinner reservations and the 24hr room service choices were extremely limited. The breakfast was good, and the pool side grill was satisfying for lunch.
The pools are not heated so we could not enjoy them when the outside temperature was barely 80F. The liquor choices are good, but you have to ask for a double shot if you was to even notice rum in your daquiri. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful.

This was our first time booking at a Riu and we were so impressed! Super clean grounds, beautiful beaches, clean and comfy rooms. I went with my teens (11, 13, and 15) and it was great for them. Lots to do- the waterslides were a huge hit. The food was very very good. The buffet was excellent and the restaurants were all yummy too.

The only negative thing was that the shower/sink area was open to the whole room- which made it challenging sharing a room with kids.

This was our first time staying at a resort. I took time researching trying to find the perfect family friend resort and this was it! They offered a complimentary shuttle pick up from the airport, we only waited for about 30 min and had a drink while we waited so it wasn’t bad at all. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and answered any questions we had. We were staying in a double room with 3 adults & 1 child and they accommodated us by offering us an extra bed. The room was clean and fresh towels were in our room everyday, & the drinks in the mini fridge were refilled. The food was good and buffet had plenty of options. Our son LOVED the virgin pina coladas (I swear he had like 20) We tried the Italian, Mexican & Japanese restaurant. The Japanese restaurant was our favorite, evening was delicious. I probably wouldn’t try the Italian again but the Mexican was good as well. Overall we had a great stay and we will definitely be back!!

Disappointing Return Visit – Declining Experience

This was our 4th time staying at this hotel, and unfortunately, each visit has been noticeably worse than the last.

First, the “elite” experience has significantly ruined the hotel. The hotel has closed several areas, yet the pricing remains the same (if not higher)- one restaurant, one pool, and part of the buffet area were closed, and nothing new has been added to compensate - you’re paying the same amount but receiving less value.

The food quality and variety have also gone down. The fruit selection was extremely limited throughout our stay—mainly apples, bananas, melon, pineapple, and papaya—with little to no variation. Overall, dining felt repetitive and less enjoyable than in previous visits.

Service, especially during breakfast in the outdoor area, was disappointing. Seating was difficult to find, and once seated, we often waited a long time for basic service like water or coffee.

Additionally, the hotel felt overcrowded. The buffet frequently ran out of food, and it took a while for items to be replenished. It seemed the hotel was not prepared to accommodate the number of guests, which impacted the overall experience.

It’s disappointing to see a place we used to enjoy continue to decline. We hope the management addresses these issues, but based on this visit, we are hesitant to return.

This resort is faux luxury or stingy luxury. 24 hour room service is not real(breakfast options was literally “cereal, yogurt or boiled eggs” and rest was about 5 sandwich options that show up cold and soggy. 5 restaurants lack any character, food somewhat above average, service is about Midwest diner level. Also, very degrading to have to wait in line to get into a restaurant for dinner. Still don’t fully know system of seating. Not to mention the Elite concept which is only for adults, so even if you wanted to shell out an extra $125 per day per person, you can’t with kids. I think goal is to minimize the people dining at restaurants, because at full capacity of hotel, restaurants can only cater to about half of the number each night. Essentially, the hotel wants to have the badge of “luxury” and does the bare bare minimum to get it. Positives are cleanliness, beach access was good (although location still does not give you sargassum free water), their lounge/cafe called Krystal had great coffee and vibe, partial ocean view room actually had great views and kids liked the slides at water park. It’s a 3 star at best, so if you go in with that expectation, you will be good. Last not, none of the people workers there look happy to be there. I didn’t see a single genuine smile from workers during whole stay, except for the guys doing water sports, which is a totally different company. My guess is that RIU is just as stingy and transactional with employees as it is with guests.

Children Hospitalized, Theft from Safe, and No Support from Management

We travel frequently as a family and have stayed in many resorts around the world, but this was by far the most concerning hotel experience we have ever had.

A few days after arriving, every member of our family became sick after eating exclusively at the hotel restaurants. Our young children became seriously ill and had to be taken to the hospital, where they required IV fluids and antibiotics due to a severe gastrointestinal infection. Continuous vomiting, fever, and dehydration turned what was supposed to be a family vacation into a medical emergency.

When we approached management asking for simple food accommodations for our recovering children, we received no meaningful help or empathy and ultimately had to relocate to another hotel to properly care for them.

To make matters worse, gold jewelry—including my wedding ring—disappeared from our in-room safe. The hotel provided no accountability or proper response.

Service throughout the property was poor and staff often appeared rushed and unmotivated. Despite being advertised as family-friendly, there were almost no activities for children and daytime beach shows included highly suggestive dancing in front of families.

While the beach itself is beautiful, the hotel does not live up to the location.

Due to space limitations, I cannot describe the full experience here. Families traveling with children should strongly reconsider booking this property

Great option for a relaxing vacation away from Cancún’s urban “Zona Hotelera”. However, if you’re into pool parties, you can also get a free shuttle to attend daytime events in other RIU hotels.

Scenery on the beach side was beautiful, staff were very kind and helpful.
They do not offer shuttle services, and food was ok. Not a big variety on food. Not many activities to do. This a family friendly resort. Overall it was ok. I don’t think I would return for vacation unless I’m with my family.
