Children Hospitalized, Theft from Safe, and No Support from Management

We travel frequently as a family and have stayed in many resorts around the world, but this was by far the most concerning hotel experience we have ever had.

A few days after arriving, every member of our family became sick after eating exclusively at the hotel restaurants. Our young children became seriously ill and had to be taken to the hospital, where they required IV fluids and antibiotics due to a severe gastrointestinal infection. Continuous vomiting, fever, and dehydration turned what was supposed to be a family vacation into a medical emergency.

When we approached management asking for simple food accommodations for our recovering children, we received no meaningful help or empathy and ultimately had to relocate to another hotel to properly care for them.

To make matters worse, gold jewelry—including my wedding ring—disappeared from our in-room safe. The hotel provided no accountability or proper response.

Service throughout the property was poor and staff often appeared rushed and unmotivated. Despite being advertised as family-friendly, there were almost no activities for children and daytime beach shows included highly suggestive dancing in front of families.

While the beach itself is beautiful, the hotel does not live up to the location.

Due to space limitations, I cannot describe the full experience here. Families traveling with children should strongly reconsider booking this property

Great option for a relaxing vacation away from Cancún’s urban “Zona Hotelera”. However, if you’re into pool parties, you can also get a free shuttle to attend daytime events in other RIU hotels.

Scenery on the beach side was beautiful, staff were very kind and helpful.
They do not offer shuttle services, and food was ok. Not a big variety on food. Not many activities to do. This a family friendly resort. Overall it was ok. I don’t think I would return for vacation unless I’m with my family.

Everything was wonderful! The hotel, the food, the staff, and especially the entertainment! I would say that the night shows were the highlight in comparison to other hotels.
Note, however, there is NO snorkeling at that beach. Great resort overall!! Highly recommend!

Would of liked to of heard more popular music at adult swim up pool but that is a personal preference. We also would of preferred just a few larger swimming pools instead of 5 or 6 small square pools.

We are happy overall with this resort. Our servers sitting outside our buffet area are always forget to bring drinks that we have to keep on reminding them. Some of them are not smiling at. The internet is highly unstable inside the room, especially on the beach sitting area, that is a huge problem for us. Also my husband is doing some work in the room, he can't use his phone system or even his cell phone which casued a lots stress

This hotel was immaculate ! Room was Beautiful, all the staff were excellent and friendly. The buffet was good and the restaurants were great . I loved that there were no reservations needed and the wait time was only around 30 minutes where they gave you a beeper and you waited at the bar area. The beach area was beautiful, the staff came and took your drink orders from your beach chair. There’s a lounge in the lobby area where you can get snacks and drinks and coffee 24/7. My son loved the water slides. It was the best hotel we ever stayed in while in Mexico

The overall experience of the RIU PALACE COSTA MUJERES ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT. Check-in was easy. The room was clean and spacious beautiful pool, beautiful grounds and well kept all the restaurants are exceptionally great. I’m checking in the groundskeepers, housekeeping, pool staff restaurants and servers is tremendous stellar. I would recommend this resort to anyone that is looking for a great experience in grand vacation.

We had a great time at this resort. Rooms are clean, staff is very friendly, service is great! The resort is beautiful with lots of green area, beach was clean, water beautiful turquoise. I enjoyed having palms on the beach instead of umbrellas. Food was delicious, variety is great even for picky eaters. Highly recommended!

The building however seemed old, and poorly built. Rooms were bland and lacked character.

-Tile coming off in pool outside the room.
-Private pools lacked privacy.
-Paint peeling off everywhere.
-Only one nightstand and limit outlets to plug into.

Resort is poorly laid out.

-Limited bathrooms around pool area.
-Limited shade areas on the beach.
-Small passageways to common areas.

Food was good, but not great. We stopped drinking mixed drinks because the lacked alcohol and were very poorly made.

+Staff were incredible, friendly, and responsive.
+Beach was well kept, and beautiful.
+Check-in was smooth.
+The square common area coffee stand was a nice place to relax.

Hotel is nice and nice selection of alcohol for all inclusive, much better than expected especially compared to other all inclusives I’ve stayed at. There were far more children than I expected especially babies and toddlers. I think the bed was the worst. There were so many springs in the bed that after 4 days I have the worst backache.

Overall 6/10 stay. IMO, the resort needs some updating/sprucing up. The grounds are meticulously maintained, but the rooms is where some of that attention needs to be. Our room had blood on the bathroom wall, half used conditioner and lotion bottles. Water leaked continuously from the shower out onto the main floor. None of the restaurants take reservations. It was chaos. We got to the steakhouse at 6:30 and they said they were no longer taking anymore guests for the night! However people that were staying at the resort, invited us to dinner with them and were able to add us 2 to their reservation after 8p. The food, all over the resort, overall 7/10. Staff was amazing. Beach is beautiful! Walked down the beach and while other resorts had piles of sargassum, there was none insight at Riu. We checked out after 2 days and went down to Majestic Elegance which is what we’re used too. So maybe we’re just too “uppity” for this resort. Will we return, no. But that’s not to say the next person won’t have a grand time. We just have preferences as far as what we like. We tried something new and it showed us why we typically stick to what we know.

Room smelled like mold, so they sprayed a ton of cleaning products everywhere which made it worse. Finally the gave me a clean room. Food was ok but I got cramps from something. The place is super nice to look at and the beach is awesome

We had an amazing time at the Riu Palace Costa Mujeris. There was lots to do and there was a lot of dining options for us. The all inclusive property was great. However the room service options were not as great as I expected with only a limited number of things you can get. And most of the restaurants other than the buffet one would have long wait times or would stop taking diners earlier than their closing time saying their waitlist capacity was full for the night.

Other than that the family and I had a great time. There are two water parks in for adults and teller children and one for smaller children along with numerous pools and the beach. The beach was clean with plenty of shade if you want that and pleanty of seating. Our rooms were over the roof of the restaurants and there was always the smell of the food when we would open the balcony door. The smell was not as bad early in the morning or late at night. That's the only complaint I had about the room. The resort was clean and beautiful and it was not too big.

I would recommend this resort.

The only comcern, was we were in what I assume were the budget rooms, on the lowest level, and the noise was so loud each morning-early- when people rolled bags up and down the tiled halls- we were up by 6:30- need soundproofing from halls! Everything 3lse was great!

We've stayed at the sister resort next door in the past and while we really enjoyed that visit as well, this one seemed a step up. The ocean front suites had prime views, always cleaned and immaculate, but the resort is large so be prepared to do a little walking. All staff we interacted with always had a helpful smile. Food was good, the buffet always had plentiful options that rotated frequently enough to always try something new.

Communication is absolutely horrendous. Between Expedia and myself being unable to contact the hotel (by design) to modify a reservation. Basically what they do is wait till you’re standing in front of them and then when you have no options they will price gouge you. I will never book through Expedia again, they were as useless as the hotel.

Everything about this place was awesome. We had to change our plans due to the government shutdown 4 weeks ago. The manager at the reception , Sharon went out of her way to help us reschedule . Sharon is a huge asset to RIU
The entertainment staff was so much fun. We went to the jungle party that was a fantastic party. Emanuel of the entertainment staff was a big reason that my son wanted to participate. The entire grounds are very well kept. The room was recently remodled and very clean. All in all our stay was fantastic. We stayed here November 30 to December 5. Thanks to the awesome staff at RIU

Great staff from house keeping to food service to cocktail personnel. Large resort so be prepared to walk a bit. Beach is large and there are plenty of beach chairs available but lots of people too😉 Beach drink service staff were very nice however could use more staff so you end up waiting a while for your requests… Able to walk the beach depending on your preference of length.
Entertainment every night, so ya have something to do if you’re not an early (night) bird.

I don’t really have anything bad to say, except some of the food wasn’t too good but the steakhouse steaks were really good. They had a lot of options for lunch and the breakfast buffet was really good. The pool areas were amazing and there seems like about six or seven pools and at least least two or three of them were adult only. We booked a room with a private pool and it felt like the pool was heated, but I’m not sure. All in all I would 100% go back. The parties are just so much fun. This place was a 10 out of 10 for sure. It was my birthday and they probably did about three or four things just to tell me happy birthday. Loved it.

We experienced several issues during our stay that significantly impacted our comfort and overall impression of the property. For three consecutive days, we had no air conditioning or hot water, which made it extremely difficult to rest, especially with the constant loud banging and noise throughout the hotel during both daytime and nighttime hours.

While the food was satisfactory and the dining staff provided excellent service, we were disappointed by the lack of dress-code enforcement. It was uncomfortable to see some guests allowed into the dining areas wearing inappropriate attire, such as spandex or clothing that was not suitable for a resort setting.

Additionally, our interactions with the front desk staff were not pleasant. They were neither friendly nor accommodating, and did not appear willing to address the concerns we raised during our stay.

Overall, we were not impressed with this hotel. Having stayed at other Riu Palace locations, we expected a higher standard of service and hospitality. Unfortunately, this property did not meet those expectations, and we would not choose to return.

We stayed at this hotel with a group of friends for 10 days. This is not the first time we are staying at Riu Palace hotel, we love it and every time return to it in different places. The hotel is nice, big and clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, the beach is beautiful, not rocky at all and very safe. We usually don’t use the pools, all of us prefer the beach and the ocean. Food is good, however at other Riu hotels we had better food. Also three of us got really sick from it, we all thought it was the seafood…. The only thing I didn’t like is that during the 10 days stay they didn’t change my bedsheets at all, other than that the room was very clean and well maintained. Will I come back to Riu, probably yes although I would like to try something different.

Resort had no airconditioning, no cold fridge, no hot water for approx 5 nites. Elevators were not functioning at full capacity.
The first two nights no air, no cold fridge,no hot water - air came back third day but again no air for 3 additional nights. Very disappointing! They should have backup generators for a property that size!
We should be reimbursed for the inconvenience we endured!
The buffet area was more like a cafeteria!
The speciality restaurants had long waiting times and the food at the speciality restaurants was not good and cold. Steak house was okay

The hotel is beautiful and kept well cleaned. The rooms are a bit weird in design as tub is next to bed. If traveling with friends there is no privacy for bath or shower.

The food for this resort at restaurants and buffet was good. No issues there.

Entertainment not the best. They round you up to play volleyball and worker leaves after getting it started. Pool games last about 30 minutes. The Riu parties at night were better.

If traveling with teens 13 to 17 they may get bored. They are not allowed in the swimup bars (18 only) also if your teens use the gym, not here must be 18.

This location of hotel is about 2 to 3 hours away from most of the excursions to do. You will spend many hours in van traveling.

Overall nice place to stay and eat for honeymooners, older couples who don't want to leave resort. Anyone else, this would not be great choice if you want endless entertainment or adventure, excursions.

The staff worked really hard at keeping the grounds in immaculate condition. The rooms were nice and well stocked with drinks. Perfect amount of amenities as well. One of the strong points is the beach. When we visited from 10/30-11/4 absolutely no sargasm. Beach was sandy and in pristine condition. Food at each of the restaurants was good, we especially liked some of the food at the Japanese and Mexican restaurant.

RIU Palace Costa Mujeres is the ideal place for leisure whether you have a family or as a couple. There’s five pools two waterslides one for adults one for kids. It’s an ideal place. We keep coming back. We really love.RIU Palace Costa Mujeres. The staff there go out of their way to be sure your holiday or vacation is simply the best. I would recommend this for anybody that is looking for a great leisurely time.

The hotel is beautiful and has a lovely beach with no seaweed (sargassum). Everything is very clean, and the water park is fantastic for both kids and adults.

I’m giving it 4 stars mainly because of the food. The buffet lacks flavor in most dishes, especially in the pizza and pasta area. We went to the Mexican restaurant, but everything was dry — we had to leave in the middle of dinner and go back to the buffet. At the steakhouse, we ordered the ribeye medium, but it came out way too dry. The natural juices were also very watery.

On the positive side, the pool entertainment team, especially Nacho, was great! We had a lot of fun during his Aqua Gym session.

I would stay here again, but I’d think twice because of the food — from 1 to 10, I’d give it a 6.

We had a terrible experience with the Japanese restaurant. The guy gave us a buzzer and said there was 45 minutes of wait. We waited 40 minutes and returned to check whether our turn was close. The guy said he already buzzed it a long time ago. The buzzer never buzzed. He then shrugged his shoulders and said there is nothing more he could do other than giving us another buzzer and wait another 45 minutes. His attitude was negative, arrogant and unhelpful. Very poor customer service for a 5 star Riu Palace. We have been to Riu hotels 6 times. After this experience we will never spend our hard earned money there.

We stayed for a week with my husband for our post marathon quiet, relaxing vacation.
We loved how big is the beach, and how long you can walk along the beach to both sides. Water is clean and no seaweed. There are palm trees on the beach that provide shade.
We had a nice room with partial ocean view and we loved that it was very quiet so we could relax and enjoy our vacation.
Room was cleaned daily and we loved the service.
Hotel design was simple, but we loved all the staff of the hotel. Everyone was so nice and attentive to us.
Restaurant food was good, a little bit less variety of food than in other RIU resorts we stayed.
Gym was open since 5 am.
If you are runner, your running option would be most likely a treadmill, since beach sand is a bit too soft or run on and there’s not much territory to run around hotel. And at security points they have a few streets dogs, as well as on the beach we saw about 5 dogs walking together which is a bit scary. When we brought up the street dog’s situation at the checkout they said it’s not their dogs and they can’t control it. Which may influence my future decision to come back to that hotel or not.
Lots of mosquitoes everywhere and it doesn’t look like they do anything about it like in other RIU.
Overall it was a good hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

It’s a nice resort overall, but if asking would I go again, and the answer is probably not. Riu Palace is not very family friendly. There are no elevators around the stairs when going to the beach, we had to manhandle our stroller everytime when going up or down. There are elevators but they are pretty far away from pool/beach stairs. There are no restrooms in Restaurants or buffet. Mosquitoes were horrible almost every evening when we were there couldn’t enjoy being outside. Food is good but could be better, lots of empty areas. Restaurants are lacking. Small portions and very few varieties. I’d prefer staying in Buffets.

I would give more than 3 starts. More like 3.5 but not 4.

RIU Palace at Costa Mujeres is a beautiful place, with enough greenery not to feel like you are in concrete jungle setting, with an awesome beach! Entertainment will keep you engaged if you are easily bored. Make sure you know where the nearest restaurants are, in case you need to use one, as there is a shortage of them on a resort. Bring mosquito spray!!! If you travel with kids, the non-alcoholic beverages from the bars are great for kids, but if you want an adult drink, low quality liquor is what you'll get. Food options will keep you from being hungry. From buffet, to bar grills, to restaurants. However if you want a more upscale dining experience, look else where as you'll not find it at this resort! When serving guests, staff always friendly and professional, but it felt like the resort was understaffed big time.

Hotel Riu Palace Costa Mujeres - All Inclusive was amazing!! The whole staff is very professional and friendly! They really cater to your every need! The resort was very clean and spotless! The young lady on the 4th floor tended to our room every day with fresh towels. She did an exceptional job. Cristo is a server on the beach and he was very respectful and helpful. I will definitely go back again.

We enjoyed the Hydrotherapy spa every day. A little disappointed the women's sauna was out of service. The men's sauna wasn't working properly.
