We had a pleasant stay. The staff was very friendly, and check-in was quick and easy. The room was clean overall, though perhaps a little more attention should be given to the carpet.
The beds were comfortable. The hotel is less than a five-minute walk from the main train station, and there are lots of restaurants and cafés nearby. I got a good deal when I booked the room. Therefore, it was great value for money.

An excellent location if you want to be near Alster Lake or the train station. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was fine (average). The rooms were very small (as advertised) and the was no room service nor gym and luggage storage only for a fee. Overall an OK hotel.

The location for the property was excellent, easy to get to from the train station (HBF), and there were many good bars/restaurants within minutes walk. The area was quiet too.

The elevator was sporadic. Also a few times the doors from the stairs were open/accessible to anyone.

Great option for a short stay in Hamburg

This is the first place I'd recommend if you have a short stay in Hamburg and really just need a place to sleep. It's a great location (less than 5 minutes from the train station, and right across the street from the lake). The rooms are small but clean, we didn't have any noise from inside or outside the hotel, and service was helpful and friendly. Great option at a decent price.

Does what it does on the tin.Rooms at the back level 5 near the lift are very noisy at night.You hear the lift then when that stops you hear the trains on the track at the rear.
Staff very good when we asked to change rooms and there was no problem in doing so.

The elevators were broken. We were given a dirty room, and had to navigate back to the front desk. Front desk acted like it was an inconvenience to find us a clean unused room. I did not want to shower, the towels were stained. The beds and pillows are like rocks. The room was small, and warm in a great location. Parking is easy!

I like that is quite close to the station, shops and restaurants. Bed was comfortable, bathroom spotless and it was a nice stay. Only problem is that you can hear the trains at night, but it is not too bad!

Too noisey from railway.

A lot of noise from the railway interrupted sleep on both nights. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, a basic standard for any reasonable hotel.

Some staff were helpful. Good breakfast. Several staff were rude and not helpful. No air conditioning for first three night and window opened to very noisy (all hours) train station. No ice machine and TV did not work.

We had to spend the night in Hamburg due to major train delays. The reception at night was not welcoming at all; rude, frustrated and very unwelcoming to the point we were almost refused stay because, only because we made the reservation last minute and their system couldn't see it. The room was clean, comfortable, all ok.

The hotel location is very convenient. It is a typical Ibis - simple and comfortable. During the day you can hear the trains (the hotel is very close to Hamburg Central Station) but at night there is little traffic.

Easy walking distance from both the main station and the city centre. Room large enough and bed comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful at check in, little contact otherwise. Buffet breakfast good, reasonable selection but didn't find the 'normal' tea bags {i.e. English Breakfast!}
Would have liked an entertainment tv station in English, there were some in other languages but not English. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a reasonably priced short break in Hamburg.

This hotel has two major advantages. First, it has air conditioning, which is rare in northern Europe. Second, the rooms are sound-proof. The location is also very convenient, within easy walking distance of the railway station and Hamburg's main shopping area. However, amenities are basic: they could not provide me with an iron, my room had no refrigerator, and there was no coffee machine in the room.

Quite noisy with the train track behind the hotel. Get any room that dose not face the tracks. A bit of an odd route getting to the main elevators, quite a walk around the hotel function rooms. Proximity to Lake Alster makes up for everything.

Great location right next to the Aster park, with easy walking distance to main area of the city and only 6 min from central station. Really nice staff and cant fault the breakfast, Great value for money.
The rooms are basic but have everything you need and the bed was comfortable. It would have been better if there was tea and coffee facilities in the room.
The only thing that would have made our stay perfect was if we could have turned down the heat in the room a some more. It was too warm for us, but if we opened the window as we were very close to the train station the trains prevented us sleeping.
We look forward to staying there again in the future.

Usual IBIS standard in excellent location

Needed a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel with air conditioning near the central railway station (it was over 30 degrees in Hamburg at the time!) This one met my requirements.

The hotel was OK except the air-conditioning in our room was not working and was not repaired despite us reporting this. Temperatures were high 20 's so we faced a choice- sleepless nights due to a extremely hot room or open the window and have sleepless nights due to excessive noise from trains entering the station .If staying at this hotel ask for room at the front thus avoiding awful train noise.

Hotel is in a great location, right near the central station (trains run behind the hotel but you don't hear them at all!) and by the Alster lake, which has some nice bars by it. Check in was easy, friendly and helpful staff. The room was clean, bed was a bit firm but comfortable, aircon was a bonus too. The bar was also reasonably priced and open until late. Few issues though: 1. There was no safe in the room. 2. Lack of towels, we got one hand towel, two bath towels. No bath matt at all, second day we got 2 hand towels, but no toilet roll replenished. 3. The shower door leaked, a lot and pretty much flooded some of the bathroom floor which made getting out tricky and slippy. However despite these 3 points the hotel is really good and I would stay there again.

We have been travelling four weeks and have stayed in nine hotels and this one disappoints significantly!
As a 2.5 star we didn't have high expectations but for the considerable cost for this they failed.
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly person and check-in was smooth. But, from there it goes down hill - there's only one lift for hundreds of rooms and it wasn't working and continued to be faulty for the two days we were there. Room was very tight (but it is a 2.5), wifi didn't work and they left it to me to contact their tech support who weren't able to fix it. We were on the 5th floor facing the rail lines - very noisy! No problem, close the windows and turn on the air con - it doesn't work and it's hot in the room. So windows remained open until nightfall when the room was invaded by mosquitoes... and the story goes on. Next the shower, that's broken too. No fun sleeping!!
Breakfast wasn't included so we purchased breakfast - at least that was reasonable.
Overall, the hotel needs a lot of work to bring it up to a consistent acceptable standard. From our experience, you can do much better for the money.

Very nice hotel in a great location near the central train station. Very pleasant staff and the room was very modern and clean. Nice to have so many power outlets! The only thing that I would have liked to have was coffee in the room. The breakfast buffet was very good for the 11 euro price.

Great hotel in a great location. Close to train station but right next to two beautiful lakes. Nice neighbourhood and only a 10 minute walk into the main centre. I don't know if low price rooms of famous hotels (like Ibis, Ramada, and Pullman) I booked on Hotels.com are all specifically designed that small size but all my way traveling in Europe this time the mentioned hotels are similar. They are both small size rooms but other room facilities are alright. I care about the size of rooms because my wife and I have 2 large trolley cases, it's really hard to put them on the ground and open together. In another hand the location of this hotel is good, it's 10 minutes walk to center train station and 100 meters way to the lake Alster. the view is beautiful.

Close to train station, hike to sights

The hotel is about a 5 min walk from the train station but in the opposite direction of all the sights. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the heart of the sights. But the hotel is very nice for the price. Very clean, roomy enough, and the staff is very friendly.

Well located within a short walk of the train station and city centre. The streets around the hotel are very quiet on an evening, not many bars or restaurants close by.

It's a very functional, clean hotel, that provided us with an ideal base on our visit to Hamburg and the Christmas markets.

My girlfriend and I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent only about a 10-minute walk from the central station and roughly 10–15 minutes on foot to the main shopping street and Rathaus Square. Breakfast was a highlight, with a great variety ranging from fresh waffles to the classic bacon and eggs. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
