Room 3. Nothing can be done about the few nats and mosquitoes that snuck into to room before my arrival. Once the pests were done in, my stay in room was very nice.

Comfortable bed, soap and towels aplenty, air conditioner was small but cooled off the room with no problem. Room has a rug, did not use TV.

Considering the great price and proximity to the Mackinac Island Ferry, highly recommend to the budget traveler

I called because we were going to have a late check-in and they said no problem, someone was at the desk all night. Well they didn’t tell us that we had to go two motels down to check in. The rooms weee disgusting. The carpet was dirty, the toilet was so gross. The two beds were were different heights. The shower head is for someone under 5 ft tall.

The staff does not care about the customers! The rooms are not well cleaned, no cleaning in four days of my stay! The furniture from the 50s makes you live like in an antique shop, when you turn off the lights they work poorly! Or they do not work at all, there is a garbage container only in one part of the territory where the office is, in the other two you simply have nowhere to throw garbage! In the summer the heating is from electric batteries! Sometimes the rooms stink a lot! In general, there needs to be renovation! At the reception, when I wanted to extend my stay! I was initially refused and told that I would have to move to another room! And for Saturday, Sunday they skyrocket the price! The service is incredibly bad! I would give -5 stars!!!!

I wouldn’t stay here! First time ever and I’d never come come back. The rooms were so disgusting! I mean down right gross. The smell made you want to puke. They were “full” and wouldn’t change rooms so we took the hit and booked another hotel. We were checking in passed midnight and getting up early to leave so we just need somewhere to lay our heads for a couple hours. I wouldn’t let my dog stay in that room. The smell so so horrific. Box springs has vomit or some dark color stains. Everything was broke lights, tv, beds, just so wrong. Air filter and ac was completely gross hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. Blinds so light was just blasting through, we stayed for about 1 hour figure out what we could do and we all left with a headache. To think that people actually stay here is sickening!

It was a beautiful, huge room with big fluffy towels and the jacuzzi was very nice. The jacuzzi had some rust in the lines, so when I ran the jets, it made some yucky orange bubbles, but I just wiped the sides, emptied it, and refilled it. That was all it needed. I highly recommend! I didn’t use the pool, but it looked nice too.

We chose this place because they said it was clean. Someone had peed in the toilet and did not flush it, we contacted the property and they did not clean it before we checked out. I chose this room because it had a jacuzzi tub which I did not use because I didn't feel it was clean.

Worst stay ever. The room had a strong unpleasant odor, and the heater was not working properly. Despite the cold weather, the room never got warm enough, making the stay very uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the shower curtain and curtain rod were already broken when we arrived, which showed a lack of maintenance and attention to basic room upkeep. Overall, the hotel did not meet even basic expectations for comfort and cleanliness. I would not stay here again.

I checked in late at night and the moment I walk in with my 2 kids they both start freaking out. I then had a weird sketchy feeling and couldn't understand why I was the only person in the entire motel. Sheets looked reused and I didnt even stay. I was there maybe 15 min before I got freaked out and felt off and my anxiety sky rocket. I went to try maybe getting a refund or cancel but wasnt able to. Wasted $50 to not even stay somewhere because the vibes and place felt creepy. Smoke detector was hanging from the ceiling, heater smelled terrible. I then booked somewhere else last minute and the moment I left the property I felt so much weight lifted off my shoulders and didnt have that weird sketchy feeling.
Maybe its haunted??? Not to sure.

Our stay at Starlite Inn was very good. The staff member that we interacted with was very friendly our room was clean, tidy and spacious as was the bathroom. The air/heat unit worked well (we used heat). We felt very safe and parking is right outside your door.
We would definitely stay here again.

Spartan accommodations BUT had everything I needed. Authentic vintage mid-century furnishings and scale, a delightful blast from the past. What I enjoyed the most is its exceptional cleanliness and upkeep…everything was in excellent working order and looked great. The heat and fan/a/c worked right on cue, so I was very happy. Must have been off-season because I had to drive to a nextdoor motel to check in. No breakfast in the morning so that was a bummer, but the room had a coffee maker and coffee packs. The room fridge was an added nice amenity, and the drive-up motel parking made it super easy to transfer food and drinks and luggage. You don’t get that with bigger places or hotels.

There was 3 properties next to each other but only one place to check in. Travelling with my daughter and there was no one else at the property we booked. I was uncomfortable with that so had to pay more where we checked in. Wouldn't give receipt because I booked thru a second party.

Check-in was about 1/4 mile away - not terrible, but strange. Carpet was FILTHY. Beds must have been 60 years old. Bathroom looks like it was updated recently but hook on wall isn't in a stud and it won't even support one towel. There is no where else in bathroom to put a towel or your clothing. It's just very bleak. The gentleman at the reception desk was nice, and they actually gave us 4 large towels (1 more than most places) - and the small patio at the rear was nice, although we didn't use it. I had to pay $30 and sign to many documents to have a small dog there that I wound up picking up other dog poop that was outside near our room so that I wouldn't be charged for it. I've stayed in worse, but I won't stay there again.

Worth the price for a quick overnight trip as a couple. Room was very dated and mini fridge didnt get too cold but worked. Walls are thin so you can hear voices from the next room and outside easily so I wouldn't recommend if that bothers you. Staff was friendly. *Note - 3 budget motels are being ran by 1 management company so check in is next door. Looks like they are trying to maintain and up keep these old properties which is nice!

This was a terrible stay from start to finish. The room reeked of a foul odor covered with men’s cologne, the soaking tub was full of sediment, and the bed was uncomfortable. On top of that, the office was closed so check-in had to be done at another hotel. Absolutely not worth any money.

Check-in was a bit cumbersome. There was one location for all 3 adjacent hotels on the property. The process took quite a while as there were numerous people waiting. The staff was not very friendly. My key card quit working the second day we stayed. Had to wait in line for 20 minutes to get a new one. Property and room were a bit run down, in need of updating and repairs.

Save your money and sleep in the car

I would have rather slept in the truck. The carpets were NASTY. i swear from the 80s original carpet. You could tell they were thick with dirt and moisture from decades of use and neglect. So were the beds. They were rock hard spring in your back type beds. I can deal with hard beds. Cant deal with stains on the box springs, and stains you can see thru the sheets. My dogs didnt even want to walk on the floor and they roll in poop. It smelled like old indian food. The water was hot for one shower but not two. Wall plug ins did not work. There was a maxed out plug in strip for a mini fridge i didnt dare open, tv and i think the window ac. I asked my husband if we could go buy a tent and sleep in the woods bc i was so grossed out by the carpet, beds and spiders in the corners. Non of the windows locked. There was mold on the walls on the bathroom where the paint has peeled up. Our only other options for hotels were equal to a car payment $$$ is the only reason we didnt leave.

This property shares a front desk/lobby staff with 2 other hotels, so check in was NOT at the property. (the people we worked with were fine the 2 stars is b/c there was no one at OUR hotel) I would have loved to know that ahead of time. The picture is an aerial view, up close this place is a bit run down and kind of felt a bit shady. People were shooting off fireworks and with no front desk staff it was kind of the wild wild west. The room was very small, but mostly clean. I would not stay here again. We were trying to save money and we got what we paid for.

When we got there there was a bote on the office door to go to a different hotel down the road to check in. The beds were very noisy so you would wake up any time someone rolled over. There were spider webs in the bathroom and dead bugs on the floor. I would not stay here again. The people at the other hotel were nice and did get us checked in quickly.

The prices booked online were not better than if I walked in and purchased myself. I did not bother to try and change booking due to not wanting the hassle, lesson bought and paid for... Microwave did not work. Outlets are only two prong with no ground. So everything in room was put on an extension cord that had the ground broken off and it was over loaded on a multi out. Not a safe practice to say the least. Decor has not been updated in a very very very long time. Carpets felt moist and almost sticky under bare foot. Door has no weather strip to keep elements or pests out. I could go on but will not.

I have never ever been in such a disgusting place. The room smelled like straight up mold and mildew. The ac wasn’t on and it was so dirty it seemed as if it wasn’t cleaned in months. Yes the sheets were “clean” but smelled absolutely horrendous. The bathtub faucet was dripping 24/7. Let’s not forget the BED BUGS. I found bed bug droppings on both queen mattresses in the seams of them. There were spider webs and insects in the room in all spaces. The furniture is all from the 70s and the mattresses themselves were not comfortable. Spider webs beyond belief behind the mattress and under the headboard. Overall not a clean location. When it was mentioned to the staff they seemed surprised although I found another review that mentioned bed bugs the same day we checked out… seems a little odd. The management is also managing two other hotels so I’m not so sure about the other two hotels conditions. Come at your own risk!!!!

The reason for the low rating is because when we arrived several others were in the office complaining about bed bugs. My group decided not to stay, and the Office wouldn't refund us for our 2-night stay. The reason we chose NOT to stay is because of a potential health risk and bed bugs can be anywhere on site and hard to get rid of!!

Worst motel ever

In my MANY years of traveling, I have probably stayed at a few hundred low-cot motels. This wa the worst. Several things did not work, but the worst of all was that the carpeted floor was sopping wet in places. I have no idea how long it had been wet, or what mold was growing in that water.. Also, there was no one in the office, so check-in was done off site. On the other hand, the woman who came to help was very effective and pleasant. Kudos to her!

Check in was difficult because there are 4 different motels in a row that all check in at the Thunderbird (Starlight motel, Budget motel, Great Lakes motel, as well as Thunderbird) therefore, the staff has very little time to deal with problems. Our room had a broken lamp shade, a plug in that was half hanging out of the wall—I could have dealt with these, but the worst thing was there was a baseboard heater that was throwing out heat and could not be turned off. It was 85 degrees outside, and the room was unbearable. When i complained, the desk clerk said, “oh, that happens sometimes “
I said that we wouldn’t be able to sleep, and please could we have another room? He said they were full, the best they could do was call a maintenance man, but he couldn’t get there until after 11pm.
Long story short, we were so desperate to get some sleep that we ended up paying $160 more for a room that was cool. It was a king, where our original room was a queen, but what a racket! I was extremely disappointed. They said because I had booked through Expedia they couldn’t give a refund, I don’t know if it’s true,

Facility was older, and dated. The bathroom, towels and bedding were clean, but the rooms were musty and the mattress on the bed was definitely old and uncomfortable. We stayed at the start and end of a camping trip to the UP, and the first night we were moved to a room without carpet to address the musty smell after entering two different rooms that each smelled really bad. The second night at the end of the trip was in the Starlite again, but the musty smell was much more faint, so we didn't ask for another room. Musty smell may be in the drapes or carpet? The beds in both rooms were in need of replacement-they were sagging and we ended up meeting in the middle because the mattress was too soft.

Our recent stay at Starlite Budget Inn in Mackinac City got off to a difficult start. First day when checked in to the room, it was quite frankly terrible: the bed was broken, and the bathroom was in poor condition. Next day when I asked the staff to change our room, thankfully, they were able to accommodate us quickly.
The new room was a significantly ok as compared to the first, However, the issues weren't limited to just the initial room. Indoor pool was not in working condition, they offered kids pool passes to the other hotel. We did not have time for it and the outdoor play area for kids was not maintained, We appreciate the staff's prompt action in resolving our room issue.

The stay its self was good! They were very nice and allowed us to check in early. If you are not staying longer than two nights they need you to call for room service the room was good! Walk isn’t to bad, only thing I will say was negative was the pools, the two indoor pools are yellow and brown, the outdoor one was blue, but had a lot of stuff at the bottom and the hot tub smells like chemicals, overall the experience was decent!
