I can’t believe I spend so much for a night at this hotel. The outside of the property and the lobby is nice and looks promising. However the room I stayed in was the 2nd worst hotel room I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels. The carpet was gross, and the bathroom was disgusting. The shower and floor were stained and it smelled musty and moldy to the point that I couldn’t be in there for more than a couple minutes before gagging. I wouldn’t shower in there and did my makeup and such in the main room. The amenities in the room were bare bones. I was put on the lowest floor across from the hotel laundry and the carpets both inside and outside the room looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks. On top of that for hours straight and through the night the family above me were banging around and the kids must have been jumping around which is fine if it wasn’t 2am. Outside of the room led to the beach which was the only redeeming factor of this hotel. I spent over $300 for one night here and couldn’t even shower. The night before I stayed at a Travelodge for under $100 and it was great! I’m not sure if it was the particular room or floor they put me in because I read the reviews beforehand and didn’t find anything to worry me. It was gross and I felt gross after leaving it.

The hotel could certainly benefit from some updates and additional attention to maintenance. We noticed cigarette butts throughout the parking lot and in the grassy area near the beach. While this is largely the result of guests littering, more frequent cleanup would help improve the overall appearance of the property.

The patio areas could also use a thorough cleaning, and the patio door in our room was difficult to open and close. Additionally, the room had a slight stale odor upon arrival.

Despite these issues, we had an enjoyable stay overall. The complimentary breakfast was good and a nice way to start the day.

If you decide to dine at the neighboring restaurant, The Club, which is recommended during check-in, be prepared for a potentially long wait for service.

The hotel is dated and could use some renovations. It is located right on the shore and offers direct access to the beach. There is also a fire pit on the patio. These features helped compensate for the hotel’s somewhat worn condition.

It wasn’t very clean 80’s style tub in the middle of the room. The carpet wasn’t clean. Typically when we stay in a Holiday Inn it is generally clean and well maintained. The desk clerk that checked us in was not friendly. I had asked if there was a room with a view of the lake. She was like nope this is it.

Lovely and affordable! Great breakfast bar and ample spaces. Good swimming/jacuzzi, tub in the room, lake view and firewood pit lit up at night! I would spend more time to drive the bridge to make my night to here to save money from not staying in Mackinaw City. Stay here in St Ignace instead!

Holiday Inn Express St. Ignace was pretty rough. We had a room on the first floor, which is technically like a walk-out basement. The room had a sliding glass door to the outside where a common firepit and chairs are situated. The lake and shore are right there which is nice. The room felt so shabby that we did not enjoy our stay. The edges of the carpet at corners and seams were frayed. The track to the sliding door was filthy. This hotel needs a refresh.

The front desk staff was very pleasant, efficient, and helpful. The breakfast included a good variety of fresh food. The facility was very dated and tired. There were stains on the carpeting. The bathroom was from the 70s. The sink was outside the bathroom and very small. The room door would not lock without utilizing the deadbolt. Thankfully, we did not need to leave the room as we stayed one night (too long). The owners need to do some serious updating. The price was excessive for the condition of the property.

The staff was really nice and very helpful! The room was clean and pleasant, the bed was comfortable, and the view of the lake was fantastic. The lobby/eating area was spacious and well done. The two things that need improvement: the parking lot lighting and lack of microwaves in the rooms. The latter was especially inconvenient.

If there would be an in-room microwave, I would definitely stay here again!

Great outdoor area, beach and fire pit, plenty of seating. Clean and comfortable. Very hospitable staff, wonderful options for continental breakfast. The only not real complaint but a bit of a downside is (at least on the ground floor) you can hear the people walking and using water or toilet upstairs but the sliding glass door access to the beach and fire pit more than made up for it! I would stay there again if I’m ever back in the area.

Nice view

Didn’t like the barking dogs on the first floor, and was happy that the front desk moved us to two rooms on a different floor. Because the first floor is the pet floor, I think maybe that’s why the carpeting didn’t look very clean. We loved our balconies overlooking Lake Huron, however, and the beach was a nice place to hang out.

Carpeting could be replaced. Pillows are great! Like the convenience of soaps, etc., in dispensers. Really miss having exhaust fans in the hotel bathrooms. So quiet without them while in the bathroom, I could hear children taking their bath in the evening, in room next to us, at the HIE during our Munising, MI stay. The fan helps to both drown out undesirable noises, not to mention odors.
