They are great for an overnight stay and not planning to stay in the room other than to sleep. Although outdated, the room was clean, the sheets smelled clean, no evidence of pests ( bed bugs, roaches, mice ) so that was good. Half the outlets in the room did not work though.
The exterior was kinda yuck, the outside pool was definitely not in working condition. I assume the row of motels was owned by the same person, because the other properties’ pools were open for us to use. Overall it was ok.

The staff were nice. It’s good they have 24hr check in. You have to check in at Thunderbird which is the motel/inn next to it but it’s just right beside the property. Good for the price especially if you would be put most of the day. Close to the port which is very convenient.

This hotel was recently purchased by the owners of the other hotels in immediate vicinity, and it was in the process of being repainted and renovated. The room we stayed in was pretty clean and had what we needed, but it was definitely outdated. I know they are in the process of doing that. Unfortunately, due to the renovations, they did not offer breakfast, but they did give us buy one get one free coupons for a local restaurant. We were satisfied with our stay.

The check in area/staff is common for few hotels together, thunderbird, Great lakes and Budget Inn, I believe. For multi-night stay, the room service was on demand only.

Good - In small room, they made a small refrigerator, microwave, iron fit in.
Not so good - Toilets, Horrible TV size, maybe 21\" Monitor or so,
Bad - Pools were not thoroughly cleaned, just okay.

Also this is nothing negative but there is no breakfast option.
But if this place is booked for primarily a place holder / sleep over to go to Macinac Island, then its okay.

Nasty and no lobby for the actual inn you had to walk to the neighboring inn to sign inn. Trashy people and nastiness mildew I have ever smelt even Gain Febreze couldnt mask it. Bathroom was GROSS no light cover (sketchy) nasty stain in tub. everything felt moist. Bedding didnt even crawl under no way carpeting felt disgusting. Never again and neighbors abovr us ran and stomped all night. no way would i touch the pool w floaties from spit or something n no water in the jacuzzi but lots of dirt and stains. room had no air flow w the pool making it feel like a warm sess swamp. ick

These are not complaints but low-grade concerns for consideration by management. Check in was cumbersome, as this company operates four properties and check ins are conducted at only one. No WiFi, although not a deal breaker, was inconvenient. We were there on a Monday evening... maybe 5 other vehicles in the lot, but guests were placed in sequential rooms. Maybe it was more efficient for the housekeeper in the morning? BUT, noisy neighbors when we could have easily been separated by an empty was an unpleasant touch. Otherwise, it was fine for one night.

The location of this property was great for us as we didn’t want to be in town, and it was a super quick walk to the ferry to go to the island. There is great lake viewing from your room, although it Is not completely unobstructed.

The staff were pleasant upon check-in and departure. At the time we were there, we had to check in at the hotel next door. Not a problem as they had signs, and it was right there.

The room was clean enough and the linens were sufficient. Extra shampoo and conditioner were available at the front desk upon request. Please note that there are no elevators.

As far as amenities, there were none that I am aware of. The outdoor pool was not filled and breakfast was not provided. I did note upon checkout that discounted ferry tickets are available at the front desk, but I’m unsure of the amount of savings.

We would stay here again.

Easy check-in, though not being able to check in until 4pm was unfortunate. Staff was mostly friendly and helpful. Room was clean but towels had stains on them but clearly washed/clean. Not very wheelchair friendly/accessible but we made due. Parking available right outside out room was nice. The door was missing the latch which was really odd and hopefully only temporary and not that way in every room. Room 110.

This was a low priced motel. Check in was next door which was a very short walk at Thunderbird motel. The gal who checked us in was wonderful. As far as the room you get what you pay for. The room was clean. There was some mold around the tub in the bathroom but other than that it was very clean. There was a small frig that froze half our things. The bed was very comfortable although the walls were thin enough to hear our neighbors snore. Be prepared for no internet. Breakfast was not served here but we were given buy one get one free coupons to an excellent restaurant.

The rooms are very dated but were clean enough. There was no breakfast as advertised. Both of our pools were empty but we were told we could use the one next door. If you want a warm shower you better get up early, otherwise you get a cold shower. We did have free access to the water parks in the area, which was nice. The price and location were great.

Make sure you book by day. There’s no phones in the room so you have to walk to the lobby. Staff is very sassy and if you book and something comes up don’t bother asking for a refund because even though it is not posted anywhere you have to give a 72 hour notice or you don’t get your money back.

We had to go to the property next door to sign in and get our key. The place is old and dingy. Lots of opportunities here. Only a handful of rooms were being used but it was quite noisy. Someone was pushing or pulling the laundry cart down the side walk at 10:30 or 11. Very loud- woke me up. Won’t be staying here again. We will avoid Mackinaw City from now on.

Our shower was not working properly in our room so we called the front desk and she said she would send someone over. A long time passed and no one ever came so I walked over and she said she called them to come. We were exhausted and wanted to shower and get in bed. Finally we just asked for a new room. She moved us rooms! The walk was very convenient to Arnold Co to take the ferry over to the island!

Stay away ! This property has BUGS ! We went to the office for a full refund and wanted to stay at a different motel far far away from this place. They would not issue a refund, but simply offered us another nights stay at another motel they also managed. After inspecting the other room, we found it to be satisfactory but sadly at 1 AM. Someone tried to open our motel door. Thank the good Lord we had the security lock on.

The building is old. Our room was large. The beds were ok.. the t.v. and cable signal was bad. We had to unplug the server a few times to get signal back and the t.v. was fuzzy. The lamps were in bad shape and old. The carpet was horrible. I never went bare foot and I instructed my husband and daughter to do the same. It smelled of over powering cleaning product and urine so much that we had to keep our window open the entire time. The shower curtain was so long that a good 6 inches of it layed in the tub while showering and it would not stay shut because it was on a curved downward rod which made the corners slide down to the middle. The water pressure was painfully strong. My husband and daughter bought swim suits from a walmart to go swimming and that lasted about 10 mins because she was terrified of all the spiders floating down from the ceiling of the enclosed pool and landing in the water. My husband said there were AT LEAST 15 to 20 that he tried scooping out just in the corner of the pool he was in. Front desk was super nice, but we had to check into the property next door which made me feel a bit weary that we were on some abandoned second thought property. Housekeeping was very kind also. It was $144 plus $25 for my dog. So it did what it needed for the 2 nights we were visiting my mom, who is a local. I chose this hotel simply because a different one that had higher stars had bed bugs earlier in the season. This one, after close inspection, DID NOT.

Our stay at this hotel was underwhelming, to say the least. Despite requesting early check-in, our request was not honored, and there was minimal communication or transparency around the delay. The one bright spot was a gentleman at the front desk who was responsive, provided updates on our room status, and genuinely tried to make things right — his effort is the only reason this isn't a lower rating.
Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell flat. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The room had a very small television that couldn’t be viewed from both beds, which was inconvenient.
Outside the property, there was an excessive number of spiders, which made sitting or walking outside unpleasant.
To top things off, a member of our group became sick during the stay, and when we attempted to clean up, the housekeeper was not only unhelpful but also rude and disrespectful — not the kind of treatment you'd expect in a situation where some empathy would go a long way.
Overall, I would give this stay a 4/10. Poor communication, uncomfortable accommodations, and a lack of professionalism from staff (with one exception) made this a stay we wouldn’t choose to repeat.

I have stayed at this hotel a few other times and had a good experience. However, this time was different. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly.
When I arrived at the hotel, there was a sign on the door to check in at the hotel next door. I learned the hotel had recently been sold. I have stayed at other hotels owned by the same group, so I was disappointed to hear this hotel was now owned by them.
The room itself was clean, but worn and dated. The handle on the toilet had to be held down in order to flush. The water pressure was low in shower and sink. The bed was not all that comfortable. I used the AC for most of my stay as it was pretty humid and hot outside. It seemed to make the room a little clammy. The hand towel I used never seemed to dry and the pillow always seemed a little moist.
Overall, it was a decent stay for the price.

They checked me into an unmade room!

Don’t stay here! They checked me into a DIRTY ROOM… as in, not cleaned since the last person had stayed there. Bed unmade. Trash still in the wastebasket. And as I waited in the lobby for them to fix the problem, another woman was there who had been checked into a room WITH SOMEONE ELSE IN IT! They eventually put me in another room that was mediocre at best, and then, the next morning, someone threw the remains of their chicken dinner in front of my door. Gross. Although the guys working in reception were really nice, the manager was not. I tried to talk to her more than once and was told she wasn’t available and would call me. She didn’t. When I finally reached her, she said they would give me no money back despite what happened.

We booked a night at the Great Lakes Inn as a cheap place to sleep before taking the ferry to Mackinac Island. When we checked in (which took place at the Thunderbird Inn immediately next door), the staff offered us a king bed at the Thunderbird rather than the two queen beds we had booked at Great Lakes. We asked which property was better and the person at the desk indicated the Thunderbird was, possibly quite significantly by the look he gave us. We had to sign a paper stating we were okay with being moved from the original property. The room was okay for what this place was - the AC was off when we came in and it was really hot, but once we turned it on, it cooled off fairly quickly. We both used the shower and the water was hot and pressure was good. I did walk around barefoot on the floor a little bit and my feet were filthy, so that was a bit disconcerting. We also had a few noise issues when we first tried to go to bed (like someone ran by knocking on doors). To sum it up, I really hope I don't have to stay here again, but it was OK all things considered.

Great Lakes Inn is in a convenient location by I 75 in Mackinac City. Close to shopping, food, attractions, ferries and water. Our room was very clean but the TV and refrigerator were smaller than most in other accommodations. The WiFi signal was slow, in room phone was outdated and the beds were not very comfortable. Except for the fireworks noise and when other guests were checking into the surrounding rooms after a long day, it was quiet. Overall, we had a pleasant few days at this motel and sightseeing the surrounding area.

List of items to be addressed:
1)Property needs lots of maintenance as the bathroom shower knob was not working.
2) Light Bulb not working.
3) Door latch was not working to close the door.
4) Internet did not work for the 2 nights we stayed there.
5) Could not reach the front desk as it is located in the next building.
6) Remote did not work.
7) Floor Carpet was a dull black shade, and some insects were seen flying in the room.

I definitely won't be staying there again. The front desk staff were polite and tried to help but the problem is with the infrastructure and facility. Only 2G internet available and that too did not connect.

By far the worse hotel room I have ever stayed in. The room stunk and it was filthy. The lock latch on the door was broken, bedding was stained, my daughter’s white socks were gray w/in minutes of walking on the floor, neither TV nor phone worked, outlets were so loose anything plugged in fell right out. The bathroom had a big spider in the corner behind the door (who had obviously taken up residence there quite some time ago based on its size and the size and its collections in the web) so clearly that space had not been cleaned, there were also crumbs of god knows what behind the bathroom door. It was so bad that my children and I couldn’t stand the thought of staying there another night so we left after one. When Expedia reached out to the hotel to request a refund for the night not spent there, they refused. I get that there are rules and restrictions re: reservations but there is no way they are not aware of the state of their establishment and it’s absolutely disgraceful that they would deny a refund to a customer who left because of the poor conditions of the room. I have been compensated at other hotels for far less disturbing concerns w/out issue. Shame on the management there for being so money hungry (I’m sure they reaped the benefit of some other poor, unknowing customer paying for the room the same night I also did) that the concerns of a customer don’t matter. I will say the two men at the front desk were very friendly at check in.

Check in was a nightmare! We had to check-in at the hotel around the corner, which was also checking in three other properties in the pouring rain. 2 people checking in about 40 people. We stayed at this property over the 4th of July weekend and paid $250 per night, which is extremely high given the overall condition and experience. While we didn’t expect luxury accommodations from a motel, we did expect basic cleanliness and service—which were unfortunately lacking.

The room was outdated and not well maintained, with visible dirt and wear. We stayed for two nights and had to take out our own trash, as no housekeeping service was provided. That alone was disappointing, especially for the price.

Additionally, the motel advertises free breakfast included with the stay, but when we inquired, we were told they don’t actually offer breakfast. Instead, we were given coupons for nearby restaurants to get a small discount—this felt misleading and unprofessional.

Overall, this stay did not meet expectations and offered poor value for the price. We would not stay here again and do not recommend it to others.

Same owner over multiple properties. Had to go next door hotel to check in/see front desk. Also have to go to the next door property to use a (run down, ugly, plants growing inside) pool. Property is not cared for in a professional manner. Seems short staffed and abandoned. The front desk did let us know we get into two local 'waterparks' with our stay. I took my kids to both, both were run down, broken down water slides, and excessive mold and smells. Do not recommend staying unless you have very very low expectations.

I did not like the hotel we had bugs in our room. The room was stinky, they advertised a pool and got on their website, but the didn't have neither one. I got bit but a spider in the room the water in the shower was cold it wouldn't get hot. I will not be staying there again I do not recommend this hotel to anyone

This was one of the worst places I have stayed in a long time. I travel a bunch. This place was embarrassing. If my wife was with she would have never stayed. Everything was old and there were spiders. I should have done more research and had no idea.

I booked and paid for an upgrade room. At check in what was provided was a standard (smaller) room. The wifi at the property is non-functional. The office is not operational and the registration process occurs at an adjacent property. Won't be staying here again.

Do not stay at this hotel. There were black widow nests in the room and dead bugs. I’ve tried to get a refund but have been ignored by management. It was uninhabitable and a health concern.

It’s hard to write a review , as when we arrived to the property .. it was closed . They sent us to a different hotel . Was bummed that the new place didn’t have a hot tub . Pool was very dirty . I guess you get what you pay for so I wasn’t that disappointed.

Reservation was for Great Lakes was told to go to another motel. Got to room no microwave as was listed on part of room I reserved plus had no hot tub as was listed was switched to a upgraded room which had microwave Couldn’t use shower because handle was broke

Warm water..not hot. Breakfast was at another motel down the road. Juice machine was not working. Milk and yogurt fridge was not even cool. Room was clean. Ac worked well. I got what I paid for but won't go back .
