No beach, No breakfast, No pool, No check in at place had to drive to a different motel. Shows pictures of all on the page. Room was clean But paint peeling everywhere. Daughter and I wouldn't use the tub/shower husband did. Covered in rust, tiles and grout falling off the walls. Views outside was fantastic of the bridge and island otherwise would have got 1 star.

I liked the view, I liked the setting of the private deck 15 feet from water, to hear lapping waves is serene! But, maybe because room was unused there was a need to clean, as there were some spiders. The sliding screen to deck was ripped, so couldn't leave door open without bugs coming in. Deck needed restaining and grill was deplorable. So, after asking housekeeping to refresh room, it was a pleasant stay. Both my husband and I note that the bed was wonderful, slept like a baby... Staff was wonderful! You are on your own, and depending what you want to pay for, this is ok. If you want a five star go somewhere else. I have stayed 2 times, the other stay was in another private deck room. So, I knew what I was getting.

I am a former Boy Scout mom, so not much phases me, but this place? What a dump. The pictures have either been doctored or are very old. The carpet and linoleum looked to be original, beer caps on the top of the faucet, and the screen on the patio door was bent and would not properly open and close. They clearly took the time to put new siding on the outside, but that is no different that putting lipstick on a pig.

The positive(s) include the location - down far enough from crowds, and the sunrise was spectacular.

BOOKED FOR 2 NIGHTS, HAD TO GOTO A DIFFERENT PLACE TO CHECK IN BEC THEY DONT HAVE THEIR OWN OFFICE, WALKED INTO THE ROOM WHERE IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTOS. MOLD EVERYWHERE, INCHES OF WATER ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR, TOILET WAS BROKEN, BUGS, THE SMELL, BURNT SAFTY PINS OPEN ON THE FLOOR !!! THIS PLACE NEEDS SHUT DOWN !!

Great location! Very clean room. Easy check in and helpful staff.
The downside is the exterior of the building, which is a shame because it has so much potential. The building needs a power wash and the windows are very dirty. A little upkeep would go a long way. And although the room was nice and clean, neither bedside lamp worked, there was no remote for the tv, no internet, and the shower didn’t drain. The vanity sink was cracked. With such a beautiful location I would suggest hiring some window cleaning and maintenance and it would be an excellent affordable place to stay.

I stayed here recently and had a mixed experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent. However, the property is older and could use quite a bit of maintenance and upkeep. While my room was clean for the most part, it felt run down. The floor had a soft spot that made me a little nervous, and the bed sagged due to a lack of support, making it uncomfortable to sleep.
I also felt the room was overpriced considering its condition. There isn't an ice machine on-site, so you have to drive to a nearby property if you need ice, which was inconvenient. The beach area was much smaller than expected and was overgrown with weeds.
Overall, this property has a lot of potential because of its great location and friendly staff. With some repairs, updates, and better maintenance, it could be a wonderful place to stay.

Check in was like a scavenger hunt. We got there later than 11 pm and there was a sign on the door saying to go to another hotel if the front desk was closed. Once we got to that hotel there was another sign on the door saying to go to another hotel if they were closed. We went to the third hotel and were able to get our key and go back to this hotel to get into our room. The room was basic, simply being somewhere to sleep. Shower floor was unfinished cement that I wouldn't feel comfortable standing in without shower shoes on. AC unit worked well. Room was good for what we needed it for, which was simply to get sleep for a few hours before hitting the road again.

At check-in they assigned us to a room that had not been cleaned. Once in another room, we found that the bathroom was old and dirty. Everything felt icky. The walls were so thin that we could hear the adults and kids in the other rooms until after midnight. We could also hear the bikers across the dirt parking lot. I would not recommend staying here. We wanted to abandon this reservation and find a better place, but everyplace was full with no vacancies. The photos on Expedia were from their other hotel down the street.

It was Dirty! Didn’t even come close to looking like the pictures. I will never stay there again . We had no water the last day . We had to cancel our plans because we couldn’t shower . We were going to be charged for an extra day if we stayed to see if the water was going to get fixed. The place is need of serious TLC! Over priced for sure ! Added only a few pictures . Extremely small room was fairly clean, but really dated. Shower was dripping and was musty. Sink was too stopped up to use much and it took overnight to drain. One lamp was not plugged in, and the other had nowhere to plug it in. Alarm clock didn't work. Microwave had no clock. No charging area for devices, and not enough outlets. Internet connection didnt work. Toilet ran most of the time. It was only one night and the bed was comfortable, but we won't go back.

The rooms were in poor shape. Our tv did not work, you could see outside around the window a/c unit, there were no hangers for clothing, there was a torn shade above the toilet, the tile around the tub needed caulking and there was no shower head (just a pipe coming out of the wall). For the price we paid, we were truly disappointed. We will not be staying here again.

A little rough but super clean!

The carpet was ripped & the room was a little shabby but it was super clean. My husband took his ultraviolet light to it & found very little to worry about. The house keeper was super nice. It is old & has not been updated probably ever but $59 a night on the beach, can't beat the price. It was pretty sound proof, we never heard our neighbors. If you don't need luxury it's a great place! We will be back.

This motel has a terrific view of the bridge BUT it is in such bad need of TLC. Air conditioner, way up high so it can’t be turned on my many of us and had a lady from next room to help me. Tile in shower is all coming apart. Just not easy access to plugs. Bed not bad .Someone needs to take over this place and care about renovating it.

If I could give zero stars I would.
The place had mold in bathroom on the tiles, floors, and ceiling. The place has not been updated since it’s been built. The water smelt like mold and the AC unit had mold in it and smelt of mold when on. We left after 1 night and decided to loose out on the money. We have a baby and found pills on the floor. Thankfully we got them before she did. Staff could have cared less

Do not stay. This was this condition of the shower floor. Sharp edges that will easily cut the bottom of your feet. Couldn’t shower and yet still had to pay 150 a night. I got moved the second night and the price for the second night at 60 ish was still too much to pay for this place.
This town should be considered a tourist trap.
Said they couldn’t refund and give partial refund bc of booking it through this site.

The view was great! There was trash around the deck and the room smelled mildewy due to the air conditioner dripping onto the deck and causing mold and moss to grow.The siding on deck side needed power washed.The carpet was old and needs cleaned or replaced. When you first pull in you, you feel like you’re in the ghetto. You have to go down to another property to check in. The motel rooms are very outdated. But they were clean and the bed was comfortable. Old-fashioned window air conditioning. There’s a beach and you can swim in Lake Huron. But the pool and hot tub were not at this property. Pictures are deceiving.

Monique was the best! We got moved to bells melody, instead of northwinds. The pluses are the staff is friendly. The room smelled clean, and the beds were nice. The property needs maintenance badly. Basic things like a broom to the outside, and paint on the heater vents. The windows and door jams need cleaning and the smooched bugs on the walls need to be cleaned up. There are some electrical issues that should be addressed. We had room 23, so it’s right on the beach, but the deck is in disarray, and the spiders are awful.
We will never stay there again, but hopefully they put a little bit of work into it. It has potential to be a nice establishment.

Hidden gem on Lake Huron

The building is unassuming—don’t let that fool you. The room was immaculate, the bed comfortable, and the shower hot. Walk out your door right onto the beach of Lake Huron, with a view of the bridge and Mackinac Island. The Crown Jewels, however, are Tracy and Monique in the office. They went above and beyond to help us. From straightening out our reservation to helping arrange activities to offering discount tickets. They were FABULOUS!

I have to admit, I was hesitant to reserve a room here because of some of the bad reviews, but this property ended up being perfect for us. The room was dated but clean and safe. The shower had nice hot water and excellent water pressure. The beds and pillows were comfortable and clean. The towels were fresh and huge! The carpet was very clean. The room could use some updates but overall for the price it was better than expected. The staff were helpful and friendly and resolved the few concerns we had quickly. The property is right on the beach with a fire pit so we had a fire every night with a nice view of the bridge and my child enjoyed playing in the water. The beach was clean. I will definitely be back here!

Great, beachfront, no-frills room for cheap that's within walking/biking distance to downtown Mackinaw City. Beds were extremely comfortable. The shower and tile work could use an update, but the showerhead had plenty of force. Wifi was spotty at best. The fact that we could hang out on the beach 20 feet from our door was certainly a selling point for such a low-priced motel.

We loved being given (without our asking) the only room with a deck out back overlooking Lake Huron with a spectacular view of the skies and bridge. When our room key didn't work, the front desk lady was there in a jiffy with a new key. Only thing I didn't like were the spiders in the corners, which were working hard to catch all the gnats that got in when we were unpacking the car. But I guess that's to be expected when it's Sept and there are few guests.

The hotel was so run down it had not had maintenance done in many years. It was not cleaned properly and everything was outdated. The beds were hard and springy, the shower pressure was non existing, and there was no housekeeping services unless you gave a different hotel 24 hr notice if you needed it. The front desk was under construction and had to check in at a completely different hotel to get keys. Will never stay here again. $200 a night for filth.

I don’t like to complain. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism. It was a great location. Unfortunately I didn’t stay at Northwinds. When I arrived, I had to check in at a nearby motel (Sunrise). Then, I was given another room at another motel (Bells). When I arrived, the inside appeared clean. Bathroom was very clean. However, there were spiders. They don’t bother me too much but if my wife would have been with me, she would have slept in the car. The outside deck had a plastic table. No chairs. I borrowed one from next door. On the table was a half used bottle of charcoal lighter fluid. Paint was chipping off the deck, there were cobwebs and other debris all over the outside part of the cabin, and the previous tenants left pistachio shells all over the deck (look at pic). I’m not positive, but I think there was a homeless guy sleeping on the beach. A little paint, a broom, some dusting would fix all these issues. Would I stay here again? I think so. But I would bring cleaning supplies and camp chairs with me.

The fumes of chlorine should have kept me from attempting to take a shower at all. I couldn’t stay in long enough to wash my hair. I have a rash after taking a shower. If I can upload pictures of my skin I will. I want a refund and need to shower to rinse this stench of my body.

Bathroom was in very poor condition. Surround shower tiles around the tub was separating from the wall. No curtain in the bathroom for privacy. I had to put up a beach towel for privacy. Other than that, it was clean and everything did work. No coffee maker. For what we paid for it work for us. Good location. Beach was nice but had a lot of geese droppings. Some children did get the swimmers itch due to the geese droppings. So beware.

I booked 2 rooms at the Northwinds motel. Another motel called Sunrise Beach charged my card before we arrived. We had to go to the Sunrise to check in and was then told we would be staying at the Sunrise. We were told our rooms would be ready by 4:00, it was actually after 5:00. The rooms they gave us were beyond filthy! The glass patio doors were so dirty you couldn't see through them and the carpet was caked with dirt and grime and the doors didn't even lock in one of the rooms. Went back to the office and asked for our money back and was refused. We had already been charged for 4 nights. She gave us 2 other rooms in yet another hotel next door the Bridge view. They were cleaner but reaked of mildew smell. The bathroom lights have a built in fan that comes on with the light and in one of the rooms the fan motor locked up and started screeching an ear piercing sound. I called the office immediately (around 9am) she said she would send maintenance to fix it. We returned to the room around 2pm and it wasn't fixed. I called back to the office and was told it would be fixed. We went back out and returned about 9pm to it STILL not fixed. Called the office again and this time I was told \"they had a lot on their plate\" Plus couldn't find a new one to replace it. We could not use the bathroom light the rest of the evening and into the next day meaning showers and using the toilet in the dark. The view was great but that's about all I can say nice about it.

The guy didn’t have our hotel room cleaned after we checked in. Housekeeping was smoking weed. It reeked like marijuana. The hotel beds were made with flat sheets not fitted. Front window was open all night long. It was hot and uncomfortable. The air conditioner kept kicking in and out, off and on. Very loud and noisy. Hot water ran out. Shower head height was to my chest. Decor was from the 70s. Microwave was so old that Columbus brought it over on the boat! More bugs including in the globe in the light fixture in the bathroom. Bed mattresses were so flimsy that you could roll over and take the whole mattress with you. Pool was out of order at our motel. We had to walk 3 motels down to another motel. Hot tub was not working at that one. We all walk down there to find the pool filthy, bugs in it, etc. Desk clerk at other motel tells us that we can walk down three motels the other way and go to a water park for FREE.
We signed liability agreement and waivers for all of us. We walked down 3 motels the other way. We were standing in a very nice hotel where the water park was. I figured that the water park would be nice, too. NOPE. Not the case at all. Water park is filthy. It has not been cleaned at all. We saw clumps of hair on the floor by the pool. No water slides were open. Dirty and filthy showers. No lifeguards. Deflated inner tubes for lazy river. Kids area on pool was taken apart and down. It truly felt like they didn’t care about any of it. Sooo sad.

Quality-Meh. But for the price, I didn't expect much!

The pool and hot tub were unusable, but we had the beach so whatever.

My biggest complaint is not getting the room I booked. It was supposed to be in the northwinds motel, a room at the end with a private deck, away from the stacked motel on the beach full of families. Instead I was charged the same rate for a smaller room in the stacked motel three businesses down. I was OK with the room change, but a little upset that I was charged the same price. I had noisy upstairs people, and all of the kids on the beach made it hard to do my work. I had I've been in the room I actually booked, my review would be much different! A note to the management, let someone know that you changed their booking before you charge their card on the phone. That was the other strange thing, I was charged before I even checked in. again, communicate with your guests. I am not sure I will be back… And I travel up here often.

We didn’t end up staying. Gross. First couldn’t find office to check in. Then when we did they gave us a different motel and room. They own 4 properties and one office for all four. When we got to the room the door was open. Bugs all over room and bed look like someone had been in there. We just left and found another room somewhere else. Didn’t get money back but still wouldn’t stay. Super bad. Save your money. Go somewhere else

AVOID AT ALL COST UNSAFE!!!

No pool which was advertised. No inside door lock and door was opened with a real key which could be duplicated. No blinds or curtains on bathroom window and a car was parked close to that window behind motel that we touched the drivers window out the window. TV didn’t work and maintenance never showed up. There was a three foot area on the floor that sunk in 3 “ when stepped on. Only office was 2 motels away. Worst experience ever. The only positive was the young man at the night desk.

Will not stsy at any of these hotels again

When we checked in we were supposed to stay at northwinds. They gave me a key. I opened the door and there was someone in there. So i told them and they gave me a key for a different motel. That room was awful. The internet would not work. Had no internet. So not happy.. i have paid a lot less and gotten so much better. They jacked up prices due to car show in town.

The motel is what you pay for, older cabin smell and feel, not cleaned as well as a hotel, but the manager was very accommodating and it was right in the beach, close to everything, and exactly what we needed nothing more.

Clean room but outdated, not bad for the price. Nice beach area but sadly has trash on it and needed to be cleaned. Description on site says pool and hot tub but that is at another motel 2 spots down the road at another property they own. On the plus side, they did offer to give us a room at that property. Very friendly office staff

When we got to the motel, there was a sign on the long abandoned office to register at the motel down the road. We did that, and the room we got was horrible. Smelled like mold, pubes on the tiny shower’s cracked walls, bugs on the ceiling. We went back and complained. In their defense they gave us a larger, cleaner room. However, this room was also slightly grubby. The shower had barely any pressure, and the water smelled awful. The bathroom linoleum was sticky and bubbling up. The tv in the room would cut out randomly for ten seconds every ten minutes. The advertised “pool and spa” was a rusty pool that had not been cleaned in years chained off with a lock no one seemed to have a key to, but if we swam in it I would guarantee we’d be patient zero for some new disease. To top it off, checkout had a deadline at 9AM. We rolled up at 8:10 to checkout, and the office was locked. There was a sign saying late after hours check ins should go to yet another hotel to receive their key, so we decided to try that. When I got there, I explained the situation. They were like “yeah, it doesn’t open till 8.” It was 8:15. When I said that, they were like whatever and took my key. Not even worth a third of the rate they charge. I’d like to review this hotel, but I can’t. There was a sign in the office (filled with furniture) to check in at another property. I went there, was informed I was going to “a bungalow”. Sounded great. It was like a cabin from the movie “Deliverance”. Gap between door and frame, mystery room with a broken padlock containing a water heater, exposed wires and damaged floor. The shower surround was held together with painter’s tape. The lamp shade was crumpled and broken. The “artwork” on the walls was abundant. By artwork I mean squashed bugs. This room was atrocious. I went back to the office and was given a room in yet another property. This room was adequate. The lady working at the desk was very nice and helpful. Too bad she has to work at such a location. Further investigation led me to the conclusion that this group of hotels frequently engages in this type of “bait and switch”. My next stay in Mackinaw City will NOT be at any hotel owned by this group.

The reviews make it scary to stay but over sheets were clean and the tv worked it's a place to lay your head. Had a AC in room and fridge and microwave and coffee pot. Things needed to be updated and floor in bathroom had soft spots but nothing to not make you wanna stay. Overall it's a cheap hotel to lay your head nothing fancy my only complaint was the lady next door with the kids stomping non stop that could live without

Upon arriving it looks abandon, creepy & front desk area filled with mattresses & lamps, and note on door to check in 2 hotels down. 2 ladies doing the check in were great…..room GROSS not so much! Since I paid couldn’t get money back , everything about this room was nasty….except the mattress, it was new, shower head only blasted water at you it wasn’t a shower at all, I couldn’t bring myself to even get in there, it was gross, floors & carpet i don’t think have been swept or vacuumed in 20 years Walls definitely have never been cleaned! Night stand was in its last leg & top was peeling away, plugged in phone charger and outlet sparked! I felt so gross. Bridge view was nice and access to water was great….but over all… yeah NO never again , even if it’s the last motel to rent I’ll sleep on the roof of my car!! ZERO OUT OF 10 recommended!!

We spent less than 15 minutes in the room. The slider door did not lock, there was a bag of rotting lettuce on the private deck and the toilet had been used recently. This was after we were moved to a sister property because the first property was filled with construction workers and looked like it was a non functional motel. The note on the office door told us to go down the street to register. Mia at the desk was very pleasant and changed us to the new site. That is where we found a room that we were not comfortable staying in because you could not lock the slider door or screen. We left the motel and ended our vacation a day early and drove several hours to our home. I would not ever recommend this motel to anyone.

Beds were horrible looked abandoned not what you would expect in Mackinaw City. Front desk very friendly. Bugs all over in room (may flies) no breakfast no telephones. Just not clean. Drove motorcycle had to park in a lot of gravel with piles of dirt. Property in disarray. Pay the extra for downtown.

I liked the view of the bridge. I didn't like the bathroom it looked like the toilet was going to fall through the floor. Half the light fixtures didn't work or didn;t have bulbs. The tv didn't work. When I went out to take a look at the beach there was dog doo every where.

Location is good. Did not appreciate not being able to check in at the motel. Had to go down the road to a different motel to get the key. A/C unit was terrible. Extremely loud and it vibrated half the room. Window shade would not conceal the inside of the room.
