The hotel was great, looks like it is due for an update (just starting to look older). It was clean, lots of parking, large room for the breakfast. Gave us lots of ideas of places to eat when we checked in. Plus side, with the balcony we got to watch the fireworks without leaving our room. Always love a room that has a balcony overlooking the water.

If there were an award for turning a waterfront vacation into a survival exercise, this hotel would win it hands down.

We booked this hotel solely for the balcony. Sadly, it appeared to be leased out to mosquitoes and bugs—you couldn’t sit outside for even a minute without becoming dinner. The room had new carpet but smelled musty, the sink was dirty, the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, and the towels had yellow stains.

When we complained, we were told we couldn’t switch rooms because we’d already put our luggage on the bed and used the washroom. Apparently, that permanently locks you into your room!

Breakfast (7–9 a.m.) was a daily scavenger hunt. Even arriving at 8:00, most serving trays were empty and rarely refilled. Whatever remained wasn’t worth eating anyway.

The manager was rude from the moment we checked in, and the front desk staff seemed to believe courtesy was optional. Housekeeping ignored our request to clean the room while we were out.

We’ve stayed at many Best Westerns, and this was by far the worst. The glowing Expedia reviews bear no resemblance to our experience and have made us seriously question relying on them again.

Zero stars from us. The only positive was the pool—though, given everything else, we didn’t dare test it. Save yourself the disappointment and book elsewhere. I could have written much more but the space is limited. Overall a horrible horrible experience.

The hotel is much older than it appears in all the photos. Our room had a dehumidifier in it that ran all the time except when it beeped at us to be emptied. There was an abandoned toilet outside the building. I wouldn’t have stayed here if I knew in advance how things would be.

Our first time visiting Mackinaw City and I had my concerns after hearing how questionable the majority of the hotels were!
We were traveling with our 2 teenage kids & booked teenage larger room: 2 queens & pullout sofa w balcony. Good shower; updated. Definitely met our needs (spacious) & had an amazing view! Yes, our balcony had bugs, but thats with anything thats outside!
While the layout of the property is a bit unique, it was well maintained for its size! The breakfast room was very clean and had nice options & good coffee!
Very convenient to shopping & Arnold's Ferry! (5 min walk!)
Honestly, I'd stay here again!
Thanks Best Western for a great stay!

This hotel is in poor repair, dingy, and dirty. It probably would be best torn down and rebuilt- it looks like an ill maintained relic from the 1970s. Inside and out. Considering how dated and poorly maintained this property is, it is very expensive. The only benefit is it is close to the ferry to Mackinac Island. If I ever go to Mackinac again, I will plan to stay in St. Ignace. I was very glad to check out and leave.

Pool is a risk, there were several like a lot titles broken or not attached to the floor, the grout was lost in a lot of them and it came out around the other title, which makes you in cases even step on them (like rocks) so you really need to be very cautious when walking, the drainage on the side of the pool is full of mold, in parts is black and on others is green, terrible. The room was clean and partially renovated so that was good. The room outside the pool has the brackets for a tv but there is no tv. Boxes were in that room where we all walk to the pool, not nice to see their delivery boxes of guest areas. Property outside the room needs good maintenance.

Begin with the check in time on the in room info sheet says 3:00, the front desk says check in BEGINS at 4:00, our room wasn’t ready at 4:00 although there were many others checking in after us that got into their rooms on time. When we did receive our room keys we were told by a front desk employee that if we were to upgrade our room we would have been checked in on time.
Getting into our room… I washed my hands and our sink wouldn’t drain, a bulb was burned out, and dead bugs were in the light fixture. I went to the front desk to be greeted with an attitude of indifference. They said they would call maintenance and I said I would wait while they figured out how long this would take for the repair to take place. At that point the manager Emil, said from his office loudly that I should change my attitude.
It’s interesting how we were guests being inconvenienced and it was my attitude causing the problems that this property has.
The maintenance person came, a very nice man, and had to put a whole new pipe fitting on the sink, I don’t believe this was a new issue. After 2 hours of time given to this hotel, we missed our dinner reservation. This was our anniversary vacation.
Needless to say I will never stay at this property again.
It needs so much work and the front desk can do better than give half hearted “apologies”.
Do better Best Western. $200 a night will get a much nicer stay at a different property.
P.S. the comp breakfast is from 7-9, not the advertised 7-10.

This was the second time staying at this hotel. I'm a bit disappointed. I was on the 3rd floor at the end. No hair dryer, no microwave. Went out for Dinner, brought back left overs didn't realize there wasn't a microwave. Every time the toilet was flushed a whistling noise occurred. Lasted for a few seconds then stopped. At night heard a knock/banging sound from a pipe, thinking maybe it was a shower above us, this lasted a few minutes then stopped. Beach was dirty. Firework show (Saturday Night 10pm) was great, had a great view from balcony. Toilet paper was horrible. The shampoo I don't know what was in it. Some got into my eyes, which burned. So becareful if you have little ones. Since we were at the end of the hall by the utility closet, in the mornings in front of our door were the blue laundry bins some full some empty. Very tight corner. The staff did apologize and did move them quickly so we can get to the elevator or the stairs. Mosquitoes were all over the balcony all over the screen, sitting out on the balcony wasn't a good idea, thankful the fireworks, only lasted 10 minutes. The hotel is in a perfect location. Very first hotel, so walking to the ferry or going into town was a quick walk. Would I stay there again.. maybe!

This is a very dated property. While we were there they were making repairs, which is good, but they will never be able to change the architectural ugliness of the property itself, although adding a few trees/gardens to that ridiculously immense parking area would help. I tried buy water in the Vending machine, paid for it, the bottle did not come out, it got stock and guy at the reception told me I have to call the company myself. I was not going to waist my time calling for $2-3 drink. When we made the reservation there was a bonus a free ride for 2, when we got there initially the guy at reception did not have idea what it was and then he said it is not working at this time. Staff not very friendly. Even through it was close to the ferry port as we wanted, I would NOT pick this hotel in the future.

Layout is confusing and not great if you have mobility issues. The staff was not super helpful at the front desk, we were told the wrong time for breakfast ending.
Do not clog the toilet, or you'll have a maintenance guy haphazardly working on it. He set the dirty plunger on the floor in the bathroom floor and when done just carried it dripping across the room floor. I would expect at least a bag to put it in or something.

Bed was fine but very high, so again if you have some mobility issues it can be a problem.
